Country of Origin: The lost Valley of Tibet
K.C. Group: Utility Breed
Height: 14 - 16 inches
Weight: 18 - 30 lbs
Life Span: 12 -16 Years

Colour: Any colour or combination of colours.


Coat: long, fine top coat that can be straight or wavy. Soft, woolly undercoat. Non Molting, so are suitable for people with pet hair allergies.  Grooming should be done daily, ensuring you get the brush through the soft woolly undercoat to prevent matting.


Temperament: Friendly, Playful, Gentle. Good with children. Not boisterous or snappy.
The Tibetan Terrier is a highly intelligent and sensitive dog. He is devoted and loyal to his family, but may be cautious and shy of strangers.
Ideal family pet.

Guard-dog: Very good. Not 'yappy'. Protective.

Care and Exercise: Regular grooming is required. Use a metal comb to keep undercoat free of tangles. Followed by brushing through the topcoat. Moulting is twice a year, but loose hair needs to be brushed out. Bathe with a mild shampoo + conditioner when necessary.
Clean ears, trim around eyes, and feet regularly.
Daily exercise is needed.

Training: They are easy learners, but have selective deafness.  Easy to train. These dogs like to please and love training. They learn quickly but can have a mind of their own
Health Issues: Hip dysplasia, eye diseases.

Tibetan Terriers are easily adaptable to most lifestyles. They are just as happy in a mansion as an apartment. They don't need a lot of exercise, but can cope with a long hike if you so desire.
Their coat can be kept long, or trimmed to a shorter 'puppy cut'.
